One thing that makes life difficult sometimes is trying to carry around too much information in our heads. There are just so many things that we need to remember to do each day, most of which we keep in our heads. No wonder we are so stressed and worn out at the end of the day. These things are often small, but if there are enough of them, they can really add up to a lot of stress and worry.
One of the best things to do to relieve this stress and free your mind for other pursuits is to write this mental list down. In fact, not only will writing your to-do list on paper make you feel better, it will also make you more productive. This is an effective way to keep yourself motivated to finish more tasks.
When written on paper, your list will be a visual reminder of everything that needs to be done, and you’ll be better prepared to mark the finished tasks off the list as they are completed. You’ll also be able to see everything in one glance, and will be able to find ways to maximize your efforts, possibly by doing more than one thing at a time. For example, when running an errand, you might be able to take care of several things in one trip.
To get started, get a notebook and carry it around with you for a day. Every time you think of something you need to do, write it down. Keep doing this all day, and pretty soon you’ll have all your tasks out of your head and onto your list. Just seeing the list written down makes most people feel better.
Once you have your list, then you can concentrate on organizing it. Divide your tasks up into things that need to be done immediately and things that need done in the future. Put a due date beside any tasks that are time-sensitive. Then, maintain your list on a daily basis, crossing off finished tasks and adding new ones.
The power of crossing off things that you complete is a very important aspect of putting a list together in the first place. The sense of achievement can give you positive reinforcement and hopefully push you to continue trying to cross things off the list. When you finally finish all of the items, make sure you reward yourself by having a nice dinner or going out for the night.

I’m a big Harry Potter fan; there are days when I wish we each had a Pensieve…where you could extract your thoughts or memories and relive them at any time (or forget them altogether).
Before I start working, I try to spend the first half hour listing down what needs to be done (on really hectic days there are a few things I never get to do and I find that mildly irritating lol)…there is a notebook on my desk where I write down any ideas I may have for my next blog post…or a funny quip that I would like to use next time. My family makes fun about that sometimes, but for me it has become an essential. Not just as a reminder, but also for release…as well as relief that there is a source of inspiration right at my fingertips.
