ezine20090826_affirmationsEspecially during difficult times, I encourage you to be aware of the mind. It may not seem like it, but there are incredible opportunities right now for you to transform yourself in wonderful and expansive ways–even though it may feel like your mind and ego have ramped-up and are fighting to keep the illusion of separation in place.

One of the easiest ways the mind can keep you feeling separate is by keeping you in a state of anxiety, fear, or panic. Fear is a very powerful weapon of the mind. The fear that feels incredibly personal to you is not personal at all. If you speak with your friends, colleagues, or total strangers in the supermarket(!), you will find that they share the same fears that you do. The fear may appear in their lives due to different situations, but the bottom-line fear is the same. If you can see (or imagine) fear in his way, you may be able to de-personalize what is happening to you–at least to some extent–and move into observer mode.

Will you take a moment to step back and watch the workings of the mind? Watch as the mind relentlessly maneuvers to keep you feeling unsettled and out of balance. What path of old patterns and old fears does the mind repeatedly take you down? For many people, the mind habitually leads them down a dark, scary road that is void of hope, opportunity, or assistance. Reality Check: There is no need to take this path!

The mind may also love to blow small incidences–which you feel are negative or detrimental–way out of proportion. Once the mind begins to wander you this way, it uses the opportunity to fill you with all the hypothetical, future “horrible” situations that could befall you. The mind can easily cause you to feel depressed, afraid, or worried over something that has absolutely no reality.

You, like the rest of humanity, are very conditioned to following the mind. And while the mind can be an incredibly useful tool, it is not useful when you are following it around and have become a victim to it. The mind is better used as a tool to serve you, than as your Master.

I urge you to become very aware of your mind. What are the thoughts that are shaping your reality today? They are probably the same thoughts you held when you were a child! Since they are so old, they may feel like an actual “part of you.” Become aware of those habitual thoughts and thought patterns that are serving you and those that are limiting you and your life.

Our patterns of thought are incredibly ingrained in us, and changing them can seem impossible at times. If/whenever you doubt your ability to make a beneficial change in this area of your life, I encourage you to call on the Divine for support. Ask that the thoughts that are serving you be strengthened, and the thoughts which are limiting you be replaced with more expansive and supportive thoughts.

It is up to you how you use the mind. As creator, you can use your mind as an incredible, powerful tool. There are many options–to live in fear, to live in hope, to live in purpose, to live accidentally. I invite you to exercise your creative ability today in a way that serves you. If not now, when?
