Breaking Through Resistance

By Arlene

Why is it that every time you start something new, a million and one things get in the way?

You make a goal to lose weight and all of a sudden every time you go to the store you seem to notice the chocolate you’ve been craving.

Or you decide to start a writing project but every time you sit down to write – you’re stuck, you don’t have any inspiration. You can’t seem to get moving forward.

Resistance always comes up when you start venturing into unknown territory – starting a new project or a home based business – it comes in many different forms. Read More→

Common Mistakes People Make in Trying to Handle Stress

By Arlene

By Jenny C Evans

As a speaker and performance coach who travels the globe training corporate executives on how to be more resilient to stress, I see and hear a lot of common misconceptions when it comes to some of the best ways to handle stress.

Mistake #1: Thinking stress is only in our heads. A lot of us may think of stress as something we feel – it’s mental, emotional or psychological. What we may forget or not even realize is that stress is also a physiological and chemical event that changes the chemistry of our bodies. Hormones are released that set off a cascade of physical adaptations which are designed to get us to respond to stress in the most meaningful way possible: physically. The stress response is specifically intended for fighting or fleeing – very physical events. Unfortunately, the nature of our technologically advanced, labor saving, sedentary environments don’t allow for many intense physical events to happen to burn off these stress hormones. The stress hormones continue to circulate throughout the body and can lead to weight gain, insomnia, reduced cognitive function, and lowered immunity. Read More→

Believe in Yourself

The number one rule in self development and stress management: Believe in yourself and in what you’re doing!

Self doubt leading to discouragement causes more stress than any other thing.  Think about it!  Maybe you’ll say: “No! — I’m stressed because my job stresses me!” — or — “My boy/girlfriend/child stresses me!”

Here’s another perspective though, one that can really help you manage any situation.

No person or situation stresses you; they’re just who or what they are and nothing else.

You manufacture the stress in how you react.  And you react with stress when you feel you can’t handle a situation and you’re losing control. Read More→

My Name is John and I’m a Workaholic

By Arlene

By Gary Gzik

The other day, I spoke with my friend John. He told me that he was celebrating his 10th year overworked free – or so he’d like to think. Then I discovered he was lying. Unfortunately it was not true. He was guilty and he told me he was. After listening to him talk for a few more minutes, I discovered that he regularly brings his laptop home on weekends, his blackberry is constantly attached to his hip, and he’s constantly deep into his work when he should be relaxing. He’s a workaholic.

It wasn’t long after discovering that my friend was a workaholic that I realized that for most, the same is true. A true problem exists. They are workaholics – some by nature, but most, not by choice. It’s the world we live in, constantly working… working to live. At the end of the day, we’ll be lucky to get in a few minutes of alone time. For most though, alone time is a dream. Read More→

Inside every desire there is an incredible gift available regardless of whether or not the desire has come to fruition. You can literally travel through your desires and into a beautiful and expansive reality. This reality becomes easily available by letting go of attachment to getting our desires. We may still want what we want! But we are not caught in anxiety or need anymore as we go after our goals. How can we let go of attachment to outcome?
