(Note from Arlene: Thank you so much to The Shift Doctors- a.k.a. I have written, in other places, about our Creator’s latest parable relating to us that we are satellite dishes, remote controls and television screens. To clarify the meaning of these words for those, who like me have problems with parables, we are receivers of words and images and have minds, like remotes, with which we can select the channels we tune in to and we have bodies, like screens, to act out and make visible what we have heard. The problem is that people are usually not tuning in to the right channel and listening to the right voice speaking the message of creation, which is to serve, rather than the voice of destruction or self interest. What is Your Best Way to Become More Connected to the Spiritual?

By Daniel
Friday, July 30th, 2010

By Cheryl A. Chatfield, Ph.D.

We often talk about becoming more spiritual or connecting to the divine. How do we do that? We know about meditation or other traditional practices, but not all methods work well for everyone. Here is one way to find out your best way to communicate more effectively with a higher presence.

We each have a way that is easiest for us to process new information. Auditory learners prefer spoken words. Visual learners prefer written material or images, and kinesthetic learners prefer movement. This preference, however, is not how we create or become more contemplative. The sense, either visual, auditory or kinesthetic, that is our least strong one is the sense that helps us meditate and connect with our Source. Read More→

Is it Always Best to “Just Do It”?

By Arlene

By Staci Backausk

While swimming at the YMCA recently, I saw a young girl with skinny legs and platted hair teetering at the edge of the diving board. Behind her were several boys from her class anxious for their turn to jump toward the instructor, who treaded water just beyond the edge of the board.

The instructor slowly counted down, “3, 2, 1,” but she didn’t move. The small crowd encouraged her with calls of “Just jump!” and “You can do it!” She kept glancing at her mother hovering on the perimeter of the pool, cheering her on. After a few minutes, she was still at the edge and I went back to swimming.

By the time I returned to the end with the diving board, she was off the board and leaning against the wall. It was clear she hadn’t taken a turn. After the other students finished, the instructor called her back up. Despite the cheeriness of her pink cap and bright goggles, I could feel her terror. That girl’s not ready to jump, I thought to myself. Read More→

The Whole of the Moon

By Daniel
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

By Rona Marx

As a young child, long before my hair started twirling into curls on top of my head, I used to sit and stare at myself in the mirror. My wide unblinking eyes took in the form reflected in the magic shimmer of the looking-glass in front of me, and I was perplexed.

The part of myself who was observing my form was simply astounded at the enigmatic vessel that housed me. My body seemed bizarre to me in its limitations, and the shape and form of it always seemed so unfamiliar, as if it did not really belong to me. Or perhaps I did not belong to it? Read More→

Do Not Feed Your Ego

By Daniel

By B. Jackson

Why do I let my ego torment me so? Is it not all in vain? Everything I am building and saving will I not eventually lose?

We live as if we are never going to die. Perhaps deep down we believe it to be true. And in a sense it is. That part of us which is eternal, indestructible and omnipotent will never die. But the part of us that we see everyday, the part of us that we give the most attention to, the part of us that wants to be correct. That part of us is going to die.

There is a part of us that looks to others for approval. There is a part of us that looks to others for definition. There is a part of us that needs to win. There is a part of us that hates to lose. There is a part of us that must be just as good if not better than everyone else. Read More→
