ezine20090318_surrenderSurrender is often misunderstood as “giving up”. In fact, it is only the giving up of the positionality of the ego. The dictionary defines surrender as “above giving a position, transcending a position, letting things unfold by itself”. It comes from the French word “to give back”.

Surrender enables me to start fresh and new. When I surrender to God, I surrender all outcomes. I surrender control. I surrender expectations. Whether I understand the situation or not is unimportant. Whatever is for the greater good is what will come out of it.

When I surrender at great depths, I transcend all conditioning. A new found awareness emerges. I experience the perfection of all things.

I appreciate the perfection of my current situation – even if it is unpleasant. I realize that I must first love what is happening to me. It is an opportunity for growth, a lesson in the evolution of my Self. Here is the process I go through.

Responsibility
I go within myself and take responsibility for creating this event, no matter how difficult it may be. I avoid going into blaming mode. Responsibility is not the same as blame. It is not anyone’s fault. I created perfect circumstances for all events to arise, good or bad. My past thoughts and experiences have expressed themselves. It’s funny how my ego mind works: I would take the credit if a positive experience would manifest. I am always quick to take credit and responsibility when things go well. When it gets tough, it is never my fault or creation. How convenient!

I didn’t have the awareness to realize what I was creating. Now I am grateful to life for making me aware of my unawareness so that I can finally change. Down the line I was always given clues, but ignored them out of fear and denial. Now I have the chance to grow and transcend. Thank God!

Forgiveness
Forgiveness is the action of the mind, permitting me to let go of a position and of the emotions attached to a conditioned belief. By doing this, I let go of the past and permit myself to live in the now. It is important to remember that I must forgive myself first. This enables me to forgive everyone and everything else.

Trust in God
I trust in God, the divine, the source, and life itself. I accept that everything is for my greater good. At this moment, I really start to listen to and live through my higher Self.

Let Go
I let go of my wants and needs. I let go of being right or wrong and just be at peace with what is. I let God or the universe provide for the greater good of all. Perfection of the manifestation that was created is all there is.

I have taken responsibility. I have forgiven. I have trusted. I have surrendered. I am free.
