Everything is has a perspective even the news, the shows that we see live on television have a perspective, leave alone media whatever we see in real life also has a perspective. Sounds very funny how can something have any angle to it when I am seeing it happen live? This is absolutely true and is also a cause of most misunderstandings in real lives.
We always assume whatever we see is real, is right, is true, but is not so always! We see things the way we have been conditioned to see them or the way we want to, we do not bother to look at the other side of the story or the other perspective.
I once read a story about a child who was asked by a teacher how many apples he would have if she gave him 10 and 2 were spoilt and had to be throw them away. The child kept on saying 9 instead of the right answer which was 8. The teacher kept explaining to him time and again and then also got irritated and slapped him. The child started crying and then teacher realized the mistake and went up to the child and asked him why he said 9 when actually the answer was 8 and explained it to him practically. The child then took out an Apple which he was carrying with him in his bag and said even if I throw away the spoilt apples I would still have 9 because I have one in my bag! Matter of Perspective.
Isn’t this what we do most of the time see things from our side and not bother to see the others side of the story. When I fall sick and call my boss and if he is rude I abuse him for being so mean and not understanding that one can ask for leave and that employees can fall sick but when the maid calls in sick we shout at her for not coming to work responsibilities etc. Sounds closer home?
It would be so nice to look at things from others perspective as well. If someone comes and shows me the new phone does not mean he or she is trying to show off, it is possible that he wants to share the joy with someone close to him. If my relatives come back and tell me about the great job her son is doing at school does not mean she wants to show my child down she wants me to appreciate and encourage her child to keep the child motivated.
This is so true for the media also; when we see anything live we see what the media wants to show us not what is true!!! We see things they way they want to show us, steering clear of any controversial current issue let me talk of the war between America and Iraq. We used to see soldiers bodies being shipped back home and the children crying all over it wife and the family mourning and everyone would sympathize with them but what about the people he killed back in the battle field, no one showed their families, therefore no sympathy for him. Does it explain what I am trying to say?
Man jilts the first wife gets married again, the sympathy can go to the 1st wife or the 2nd wife whoever makes interesting (read high TRP worth) story and misery. The one who decides to keep quiet and go through it all by her becomes the vamp!!
I wish we could get over these biases and look at things the way they are and not just what we think they are. I wish the media could become really responsible and show us both the sides of the coin and not try to make villains where there are none. I wish… But then if wishes solved anything it would be a totally different world. I just hope whoever reads this understand what I am trying to say and try to look at things different starting now.
