Over the past year, I’ve developed the habit of always going within first for the answer, so when I feel stuck or need advice on what course of action to take, I start asking questions to myself until I get the answer that I need.
However, one of the skills I’m still learning to develop is discerning whether the information is coming from my egoic mind, or if it’s coming from Higher Guidance through intuition. I know that when I take action according to my intuition, I’m always led on the right path, even though it doesn’t make logical sense at the time. The egoic mind can provide some good information, and at the time, may seem like practical advice that I can follow logically. However, the egoic mind can only give limited guidance based on past experiences, or knowledge from an existing belief system.
Intuition, however, provides guidance from a much higher perspective, where information may flow to me that may not easily be detected from the five senses, or from past experience.
Here’s an example. Imagine that you are riding a boat down the river, and you can clearly see the river flowing ahead of you from a distance, and you notice the trees and forests to the side of you. The logical mind will tell you that if you keep rowing down the river, you will reach your destination ahead of you. At that given moment, it looks like smooth sailing ahead.
Higher guidance, however, looks at where you’re at from an aerial perspective. Think of it like a satellite, where it sees the entire area for miles, including the network of rivers and forests. This guidance may nudge you to stop your boat, and instead of rowing further down the river, to carry your boat through the forest. Logically, this may not make sense. However, this Higher guidance saw a steep waterfall one mile ahead of where you’re at, and nudged you to go take an alternative path through the forest to an adjacent river a few hundred yards away.
So if you stuck with your logic, you would have continued rowing down the river and met with danger with that waterfall. If you followed Higher guidance, you would have avoided this danger, and found a much faster route through the forest and going on that adjacent river, which you would not have seen at the time.
How do you tell if the advice is coming from Ego or Intuition? You will feel joy, excitement and passion at the idea. You may get goose bumps, feel tingly sensations and chills running down the back of your neck, or see the hair on your arms standing. You’ll want to jump into action. When you take action, you’ll notice the synchronicities unfold, so continue taking action. Then you’ll be in Flow! Intuition is like a muscle – the more you exercise and develop it, the stronger it gets and the more you trust yourself with making decisions.
