ezine20090930_changeThe most inspiring thoughts can come from the strangest places. I lived close to a construction site a few years ago, and whenever I felt like a break from staring at a computer screen, I’d wandered over to inspect the progress. I found it therapeutic and even calming to watch these mechanical giants at work, rearranging massive amounts of soil and breaking up large slabs of concrete.

Anyway, you’ve probably heard of GIGO — Garbage In Garbage Out. It usually refers to the fact that if you put nosensical data into a computer, it will give you equally nonsensical output. In the area of personal development, GIGO has also been used to describe what happens if you feed your mind with garbage.

Getting back to my construction site. There was a machine that had a big hopper at one end and a conveyor belt at the other end. Somewhere in the middle there was a crusher and muncher (that’s an earth moving term). All the garbage, the huge broken bits of concrete and rubble, were piled into the hopper to be crushed and munched however; what rolled off that conveyor belt at the other end was anything but garbage. It all came out as perfectly useful, clean filling to be spread over the ground as a base for the foundations of the brand new apartments that were being built.

I thought to myself as I sat there and watched, you know what? Our minds are capable of doing this too. It doesn’t matter how much garbage we’ve been fed over the years, we have the potential to transform our minds and create a solid foundation to build our new reality on. We really do!

There are some things you just don’t share with others. We’ve all had dreams that have been pummeled and crushed and whacked around by naysayers who feel it’s their duty to tell us to “get real”. Why do we allow that to happen? Why do we give the reigns of our life to someone who isn’t prepared to get off the couch and make their own life better?

It just doesn’t make sense!

So, even if your dreams might look like a pile of rubble at your feet right now, know this. You can pick them up, dust them off and begin again. You can create your own reality by unlocking the power of your mind. A reality that you will be pleased with and joyful in. And isn’t that exactly what you intended your life to be?
