“High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.” -Charles F. Kettering
Welcome back. I need you to focus in on this. Focus as hard as you can on what we are going to discuss today. We need to change our tomorrow, change what we are expecting it to be.
Ask yourself, what you are expecting your next moments, your tomorrow, your future to be like. What are you thinking that you will accomplish? What are you thinking you can accomplish? Most of us have had times in our life where negative mindsets have taken a toll on our production levels. Many of us have spent our lives in a frame of mind that has hindered most productive steps that we were about to take.
I am here to tell you that the only thing standing in the way of you accomplishing great things are your expectations. It can be a long trip to get to where we want to go, if we do not have the proper thought patterns. The road that some may be traveling may never end at our desired destination. What we have to do is diminish is the span between desire and outcome.
Do your desires and the outcomes that you have created as a result line up? Do you have what you desire? There is a huge difference between expectations and goals. There is yet a larger difference between expectations and dreams. The difference between reaching your goals and obtaining your desires is simply whether or not you think you will.
The word desire is different for all of us, although, it is more alike than you might think it to be. I bet I can tell you what your desire is. You desire something that you do not have. Am I correct? You desire more than you currently obtain. That is pretty standard protocol for all of mankind.
Problems can arise from wanting what you do not have. I want to warn you that it can rob you of your life. There are things all around us, things in our grasp that we simply cannot have.
They are someone else’s; the car, the clothes, the lifestyle. Our media has deliberately infiltrated our mindsets and with little to no regard for our well being. We have come to believe that our desires should line up with what we perceive others lives to look like. We want what others have.
What would your day look like if you were fully in the moment? How would your life change if you could enjoy the present moment. What if you could really enjoy the time with your kid’s, not thinking about your work day. What if you could enjoy your hobbies without being on another task in your mind. This is what having solid expectations creates.
So, let’s get on the road to solid expectations. I want you to stop the car and whatever road you are traveling down at the moment to simply turn around. We get in the moment by expecting what is to come. It sounds like an oxymoron but remember we have to start thinking different. The only way to get into the moment is to expect good things to come our way. Expect what you desire to come into reality. Expect that your efforts will pay off. Draw a clear picture in your mind, on paper, on your heart of what you want in life. Hopefully that consist of much more than material things. Now, expect that those things will come your way. Do not worry about whether or not you will be able to accomplish enough to get them. Just stay in the moment. Do everything that you can on the particular task in each and every moment.
Let me give an example. Have you ever played with your kids and been somewhere else at the same time? Have you ever been in a conversation with someone, nodding your head and not hearing a word they were saying? This is because we are all guilty of not being in the present. We are in reality worrying about the past or the future. Then when we get to the task that we were worrying about we find ourselves worrying about not giving our attention to our kids or the person who was trying to share their life with us. As a result, we are not able to give our work what we need to.
We therefore never reach our goals. We never obtain our dreams. The road between our desires and our outcomes remains an untraveled path. The challenge for today is to start to train your mind to be in the moment by expecting good to come your way. Expect that the road you are traveling will lead to great things.
