The first manned mission to the moon, Apollo 8, was nearly scrapped because the engineers could not solve the problem of keeping the rocket on course. The best scientific minds at NASA could only achieve a 20% simulated on course rate. NASA engineers had a breakthrough when they changed the way they looked at the issue. Instead of attempting to stay on course 100% of the time, they focused on developing superior measurement technology to make constant incremental small course corrections. The end result, Apollo 8 was off course 80% of the time, but it landed within twelve feet of the intended target.
The Apollo 8′s successful landing demonstrates that the most spectacular successes are based on consistent incremental course correction. No goal is achieved by going from point A to point B in a straight line – zigs and zags are inevitable, not the exception.
Thus, you can adapt the same mind set to achieve your goals. Even a one-degree shift in your thinking will create a massive change over time. When you create the conditions you need to shift your thinking, even one degree, you will succeed in seeding change in your life. That change, six months later takes you to a new place.
If you allow yourself to devote time in your daily life to make the shifts in your thinking to create your desires, even the smallest shift – like the shifts for the Apollo 8 course – will make a big difference over time.
Have fun knowing little consistent incremental changes yield big results.
