If you’ve been feeling slightly jaded or mildly ‘depressed’ recently, could it have something to do with the information diet you’re consuming?

Surrounded by doom-mongering headlines and tone of the Metro daily papers, news-stand posters, radio, websites and TV, it’s not surprising that these messages can impact the mindset and mood of more “sensitive” people.

It’s very easy to trigger the emotional response of ‘fear’ using language, imagery and voice tone. Most mainstream ‘news’ is designed to do exactly that – elicit a strong emotional response! Uncertainty, scarcity, pain and fear are all relatively easy to trigger in most human beings. Just listen to the music, words and tone of  TV news to hear how expertly this is done!

Stress hormones released

We are genetically hardwired for a ‘fight or flight’ response when we perceive a ‘threat’. This lightening-speed reaction is designed to protect us and keep us safe. However stimulating that mechanism with an unhelpful or ’stress-inducing’ information diet results in Cortisol (the stress hormone) being unnecessarily pumped through our body numerous times each day. The Coat Button Cure

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

By Hannah Keeley

I was once a prisoner of perfection. If I couldn’t mop the entire kitchen floor perfectly, I wouldn’t do it at all. If I couldn’t declutter my entire closet, I wouldn’t clear out anything. See, here’s the deal with perfection. Some people may look at a cluttered, messy home and think, ‘well, this person is definitely NOT a perfectionist.’ But, that’s not the way it works. The perfectionism is exactly WHY the home is so messy. A mom doesn’t have enough uninterrupted time to do projects to a perfect standard. And for perfectionists, “good enough” just won’t cut it. It’s got to be perfect.

Well, I escaped my prison. And I’m going to help you do the same.

A person once told me, “You don’t notice much on a running horse.” Now, at the time, I just didn’t get it. But, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that my perfect standards were just for my benefit, and no one else’s. No one notices if you vacuum under the furniture. No one notices the dirt around the edges of the bathroom. No one even notices the dust on the windowsills. You are the only one who really cares about the details.

I remember one time when I just started having kids, we wanted to invite some friends over, but I canceled the plans because I had not cleaned the bathrooms. Can you believe that? I gave up hours of fun and fellowship with people I love and enjoy because of a dirty bathroom!!

Then I started becoming a racehorse. No one notices the color of the saddle or if it’s genuine leather. No one knows if the mane is conditioned or has little ribbons braided into it. All they are focusing on is the race.

Here’s the deal–are you going to live your life in the box at the starting gate or are you going to break out and start running the race that has been set before you? Read More→

Sexy Glass

Monday, July 19th, 2010

By Ungenita Prevost

You’ve heard of looking at life through rose colored glasses. Well this concept has many different definitions. But the most common is having an attitude that things are better than they really are. Okay so if what you focus on materializes it would behoove you to do that. Glasses are worn to see correctly but what if you wore glasses to see your life exactly the way you want it.

When you think of glass, you probably think of eyeglasses, the cola loved by millions was once stored in a sexy glass bottle or your favorite nutritional beverage might be stored in a glass bottle. Glass is optically transparent & so are you. You have the ability to get crystal clear & design a fabulous future when you use your imagination. Read More→

Order – First Law of the Universe

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD

Have you pondered the fact that ‘Order’ is the first law of the Universe? Everything in the Universe is in perfect order. If you want anything better in your life-environment, things, the first step is to put your thinking in right order wherever you are. Your thoughts create your reality. Thinking is embodied in the Law of Divine Oneness.

The Law of Divine Oneness holds the understanding that we live in a world where everything is connected to everything else. Everything you do, say, think and believe affects everything else and the universe around you.

Your thoughts, words, feelings and actions are energy. What you think, say, feel and do in each moment comes back to you to create your reality. Energy moves in a circular motion. What goes around comes around. The combined, thoughts, words, feelings and actions of everyone on the planet creates a collective consciousness, it creates the world you see. Read More→

Let Go of the Rope

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

By Dana Houser

I was standing at the magazine rack of my local B&N bookstore the other day when I came across the best magazine on the “Life of Luxury” there is, the Robb Report. As I thumbed through the pages looking at million dollar homes, fancy sports cars, incredible jewelry, private jets and mind-boggling boats, I had to ask myself, “what do these people do?”

As you get up each morning, get dressed and head out the door to your ‘dream job’ I’m sure you believe everyone is just like you. That ‘dream job’ remark was extremely sarcastic by the way, because most people hate what they ‘have to do’ everyday. Then why do they do it?

When I asked myself that question, I was reminded of a boating story that happened years ago. It was Wally’s first time on water skis. He jumped in the water, slipped the skis on his feet, and was briefed on how to get up on top of the water. Everyone thought everything was covered, and it was, we thought. That is until Wally crashed, and didn’t let go of the rope. Never assume anything, maybe he thought we’d pull him back around to his skis and he would start on the go. But as we started to slow down, we kept yelling at him to “let go of the rope”. I mean he was getting drug on the water, bouncing off the wake and taking in more than Moby Dick. Wally couldn’t hear us and unfortunately nearly every time we yelled to “let go of the rope,” he got another mouthful or bounced off another wave.

That’s a pretty funny story and thankfully no one was hurt, at least nothing serious. But how many of us go through life ‘hanging onto the rope?’ Read More→
